DIY wedding calligraphy: alphabet practice

DIY wedding calligraphy: alphabet practice

Published 1st Sep 2017

Handmade details are the perfect way to add the ultimate personal touch to your wedding - so why not turn your hand to pretty calligraphy?

Fact: calligraphy lends itself perfectly to weddings.

No longer just the remit of fountain pen-twirling experts, the hand-lettering art form is now having a serious moment, offering a classic-yet-modern, sophisticated-yet-warm finish to just about anything.

If you fancy adding an element of DIY to your wedding day, calligraphy is a must-consider option. All you need to kick-start your new hobby (and trust us - you'll be gripped!) is paper and a nice ink pen.

If you're feeling ambitious, consider hand-lettering your wedding save-the-dates and invitations. For those who want to dip their toe in a slightly less ambitious way, table names or dessert bar labels both make great options.

No idea where to begin? These alphabet sheets from new book Lettering with Purpose (by Brittany Luiz, released 7 September) will help you learn how to nail basic lettering - print them out and practice the flow and form of the letters.

The style: simple and minimalist

The style: vintage curls

The style: to-the-point - in style!

The style: classic charm

Lettering with Purpose by Brittany Luiz. Published by Walter Foster, an imprint of The Quarto Group (£12.99). Out 7th September.
