Published 10th May 2017 - Bianca and Brandon tied the knot in a no-rose, by-the-sea celebration, held at the bride's home
Bianca Vos, 32, a freelance editor, and Brandon Lynch, 34, owner of a building company, were married in Bianca’s family home in Constantia, Cape Town.

We met through mutual friends at a brunch. It was 35 degrees and he walked in wearing black skinny jeans! After days of flirting, we finally smooched. His job took him all over the Med, and mine through Africa, so we chased each other around the world for 18 months, before ending up in his hometown of Australia for a year. On our return to Cape Town, he proposed in front of 190 people at my 30th birthday party.
The theme of our day was a tropical safari – picture a Ralph Lauren safari shoot set in a tropical beach jungle. We love the African safari style (leathers, wood and textured fabrics), as well as the beach, bright colours and exotic flowers.
The team at Okasie did the most amazing job. They do flowers and bespoke furniture – a one-stop shop for 90% of the décor. We specifically asked for no roses and for them to use as many indigenous options as you can and to have fun with it. They told me they’d never had a bride request no roses!
We used plenty of alliums, chrysanthemums, freesias, gladiolas, heliotropes, lilies, dahlias, artichoke flowers, delphiniums, astrantias, peonies, orchids, tulips, hydrangea, African daisies, ferns, palms and snapdragons to name just a few!
We chose to get married in my childhood home – there were memories everywhere. The space wasn’t just striking – it was exquisite. We felt like we were in a very comfortable paradise.
Our families call us “the giraffes” as we’re both tall, so in keeping with the theme, we had small and colourful beaded giraffes made by a local artist to be our favours. We added name tags and used them as place names. We also had a 2.4m tall wooden giraffe carved for us by a local artist, which doubled up as our guest book and is now sitting proudly in our home.
One of my favourite moments of the day was just before the reception – my new husband and I stood alone in the tent and enjoyed a glass of champagne. It was such a special moment for the two of us, and the only time that we had alone.
Our food was lip-smacking! Olive oil mousse in cups, potato, bacon and crème fraîche pie on tin plates, buttermilk fried chicken drumsticks in buckets, chocolate torte and honeycomb in jars were just a few of the delicious treats. For dessert we just had to have Brandon’s favourite, croquembouche, and my personal favourite, a macaron tower.
The evening party featured a lot of dancing, laughing and singing, and ended at 3.30am, when our bridal party shoved us into a cab barefoot and with no phones... perfect!
My tip for brides-to-be: If you have the budget, hire a wedding planner. Also, things happen the week of your wedding that you would never expect: random roadworks, luggage going missing, phones breaking, cars breaking... so get everything done at least two weeks before and just breathe!
