Hayley and Jonathan exchanged vows in a romantic Scottish stately home...
Hayley, 33, a business development manager, and Jonathan, 33, a company director, married at Gosford House in Longniddry, Scotland.
We wanted a traditional Scottish wedding with English touches, and Gosford House allowed us to create just that. The entrance hall, which showcased a spectacular marble staircase, gave an immediate feel of opulence.
With large Venetian windows, ornate plasterwork, gilt picture frames and antique mirrors, the backdrop was already impressive, so we kept our colour scheme neutral, incorporating soft pink and peach hues with accents of gold.
My first dress was a disaster! But luckily, La Novia in Edinburgh was on hand to help, and the team created for me a gorgeous Italian lace gown with a separate lace bolero to match.
To complete my outfit, I held a hand-tied bouquet of ‘Sweet Avalanche’ and ‘Miss Piggy’ roses, peonies, ranunculus, astilbe, hypericum berries and foliage.
My bridesmaids wore ivory-coloured dresses with complementing pearl necklaces, while Jonathan looked handsome in his traditional Highland wear.
We filled gold goblets with white blooms and placed them on the mantelpiece above the open fire, while tablecentres of garden roses and hydrangeas were displayed on silver pillars to echo the grandeur of the house.
The warm glow from the fire created a homely feel and, to complement this, we used storm lamps and votive candles. We had a simple, white-iced cake adorned with lace and pearl detail, which tied in nicely with our theme.
My favourite moment...
Jonathan and I were stood outside together when suddenly the Edinburgh Pip band appeared, playing the bagpipes – it really was unforgettable.
My tip for brides-to-be...
Try to share any planning challenges with your partner – you’ll be surprised by how resourceful you can be when you work together instead of going it alone!
Steal their style!
